ECC John 3:16 Pages & World Paper Dolls

I almost forgot that I wanted to add our John 3:16 pages and paper dolls we worked on all year.

During our study of each country we colored a John 3:16 page.  It had the scripture translated into the appropriate language for each country.  I would then put the pages in sheet protectors and tape them on the other closet door in our classroom.  (The top closet door was covered in lapbooks.)

We also made paper dolls for each country that we could match.  We used paper doll cut outs printed from the web site makingfriends.com.  Sometimes there was only a girl or only a boy that would match but we made it work.  We taped each doll under our John 3:16 banner.  We started at the center and moved out from there as the year went on.

We started with Patriotic and Native American paper dolls for the U.S.  Then Fiesta for Mexico.  For Canada I came up with my own by using the ice skater outfit, football outfit and a clip art flag I found online.  Beau did an African boy and Roo did an Irish Step Dancer for Europe.  Then we moved on to India, China, Japan and Australia.  For Antarctica we used Winter paper dolls.  Both kids enjoyed this activity.  Yes, even my boy.  :)

ECC Weeks 21-24 Saudi Arabia, India and St. Patrick's Day - A Recap of Our 2010-2011 School Year in Pictures

ASIA (Saudia Arabia & India) & St. Patrick's Day

WEEKS 21-22 - Saudia Arabia

For Saudi Arabia we made a lapbook page and a camel lapbook.

We also started a weaving project that I previously posted about.  (It's listed in May 2011 under 'Our Saudi Arabia weaving project is finally complete'.)

WEEKS 23-24 India

For India we completed an India lapbook page and a lapbook on tigers.

We also made a mountain project I previously blogged about.  (It's listed in April 2011 under 'ECC Weeks 25-26 - China And A few Past Projects From India & Kenya'.)  Here are a couple more pictures.

Our stone inlay boxes turned out to be stone inlay pancakes but the kids enjoyed them just the same.

The kids made pretty small volcanos but that's what they wanted.  I added red food coloring to the vinegar for effect.  It was quite messy but fun.  Beau added one of his little green men.  Too funny.

St. Patrick's Day 2011

We have this tradition Beau started a few years ago of watching the story of St. Patrick on our Veggie Tales DVD Sumo of the Opera.  To keep with tradition we watched it again.  ;)

I also made a cute cake.  I used white frosting mixed with green food coloring and black food coloring for the pot.  Then I covered it with Skittles in a 'rainbow of colors'.  I don't think the rainbow is in the right order and Skittles doesn't make a blue but it was fun all the same.

Well, I think that finally wraps up our school year.  I previously blogged about weeks 25 to 34 which included China, Japan, Russia, Australia and Antarctica.  To see the rest of our studies look for 'ECC Week ...' in the April and May 2011 archives.

ECC Weeks 18-20 Kenya - A Recap of Our 2010-2011 School Year in Pictures

AFRICA (Kenya) and our 100th Day of School

WEEKS 18-20 - Kenya

For Africa we did a Kenya lapbook page and an African animals lapbook.

We also did our mural project with a print out of a tree and stickers.

The game Mancala was scheduled in the TM with directions on how to make the game out of an egg carton.  I realized while I was reading the directions that we actually had the game in a wood game set my husband and I purchased years ago.  I'm not sure why but the kids loved playing this.

We made fabric bowls and tie dye shirts for our crafts.  I don't think I had ever made anything tie dye before.  Well, I vaguely remember a tie dye project from church camp when I was a child many moons ago.  It was fun and the kids really enjoyed making their own creations.  I previously posted about the bowls but included a couple of different pictures here.

We also attempted to make a substitute ivory craft out of soap but that one just didn't work out very well.  We followed the directions in the Global Art book.  As instructed, I put two bars of white soap, each in its own bag of water to soften.  The soap never would soften.  I was using a generic store brand.  I think that may have been the reason.

100TH DAY OF SCHOOL

Our 100th day of school is also our pajama day.  My kids know that public school has a pajama day so they wanted to have one, too.  So I just did a double day and celebrated both on the same day.  Both kids couldn't wait to wear their p.j.'s but after lunch Beau asked if he could change.  He must be growing up.  This year may have been our last pajama day.  :(

On the 100th day of school we played coin games, counted coins, made a snack with 100 pieces and more.

On to Asia . . .

ECC Weeks 12-17 Norway, France & Germany - A Recap of Our 2010-2011 School Year in Pictures

EUROPE (Norway, France & Germany)

WEEKS 12-13 - Norway

The craft projects for Norway were Rosemaling and Lapland felt squares.

The directions in the Global Art book didn't always fit our family.  One was the Rosemaling project.   So I modified it.

The kids did their Rosemaling projects with thin wood boxes, stencils and markers instead of cardboard chests and paint.

The lapland project was pretty simple.  Just blue felt, scraps of red and yellow felt and different trims such as rickrack and ribbon.  I helped Roo cut out her triangles but Beau wanted to cut his triangles out himself.  This was another project they both enjoyed.

Instead of doing an entire lapbook for Norway I came up with the idea to just do a lapbook page.

For part of our science we did a tree lapbook.

WEEKS 14-15 - France

For France our TM called for making your own Eiffel Tower out of the medium of your choice such as cardboard, craft sticks, legos, etc.  I found a 3D Eiffel Tower puzzle at Michael's so we used that.  This was again, another enjoyable activity.

Here is a picture of our France lapbook page.

Since the science was sort of general for Europe, we completed an animal classification lapbook and many of the pages from the back of our Complete Book of Animals workbooks.  (The ones with the Orca on the front.)  I also read the animal classification section from our DK Encyclopedia of Animals.  (It's the one with the big white polar bear on the front.)  These coincided very well and I think we all really enjoyed this study.

I think we worked on this lapbook through Germany as well.

WEEKS 16-17 - Germany

For some reason I didn't take a lot of pictures during Germany.  We did play with the Modeling Beeswax.  I don't think Beau really cared for the beeswax because it took a little patience and the warmth of your hands to mold it.  Roo really enjoyed it, though.  I think we also did all the experiments listed in the TM for these two weeks but no pictures other than the Germany lapbook page.

Africa is next.
