CTG Weeks 18 - 31

During the first few months of the year we were very busy and my husband had surgery so we mostly did the minimum with school but we did add in a few DVD's here and there as you can see.  We did some other fun things but just not always related to our school subjects.  And I didn't get pictures of some of the projects we did complete.

After our study of Samson we watched the Greatest Heroes DVD Samson and Deliliah.  We were able to get this through Netflix.

CTG - Weeks 15-17

CTG - Week 15

I didn't prepare for Week 15 ahead of time so I didn't have the materials needed to make the tabernacle according to the My Father's World Creation to the Greeks Teacher's Manual directions so I went into the MFW Message Board archives and found an all paper version someone else had previously found and posted.  It can be found here:  http://www.gospelhall.org/teaching--preaching/sunday-school-lessons-and-activities-for-kids/sunday-school-lesson-219-the-tabernacle-in-the-wilderness.html  Below are the pictures of our completed tabernacle.

We also watched the DVD The Tabernacle.  We were able to rent it from Netflix.  We watched it during lunch one day and even though it was a little dry the kids really got a lot out of it.  It takes you through a 3D tour of the tabernacle and explains each item and what it represents.  It was very interesting and informative.

For fun we watched the Veggie Tales DVD Moe and the Big Exit.

CTG - Week 16

After reading about the twelve spies spying out the promised land we enjoyed a snack of grapes, pomegranates and Fig Newtons.

CTG - Week 17

After reading about Joshua and the Battle of Jericho we watched the DVD Greatest Heroes and Legends of the Bible:  Joshua and the Battle of Jericho.  We rented it from Netflix.

As we continued our study of Ancient Egypt we made an Ancient Egyptian game called Senet.  We used the game board that came with our student sheets, buttons and small craft sticks with one side colored black.

CTG Weeks 13-14

We have finished our year with My Father's World Creation to the Greeks but so far I have only blogged about our year up to week 12.  I really wanted to go back and catalog some of the things we have completed for this year so here goes.

CTG - WEEK 13

We were in the middle of studying God and the 10 plagues.  For boils I used a large hole punch (1" I think) to punch red circles out of paper.  Then I helped the kids tape them on their bodies.  The tape made them itch so it sort of gave them a small idea of what it would have been like to actually have boils.  I could hardly get them to keep the 'boils' on long enough for me to take a few pictures.  LOL!!

During our study of Bach we listened to the radio broadcast from classicsforkids.com about Johann Sebastian Bach and we watched the DVD Mr. Bach Comes to Call.  We were able to rent the DVD through our local library system.  The kids really enjoyed this DVD.
Classical Kids: Mr. Bach Comes to Call

CTG - Week 14

During our study of The Exodus we did the optional manna activity.  I got up before the kids and laid down an old clean sheet on the family room floor.  I then popped a bag of popcorn and laid it out on the sheet.  (No butter, no salt popcorn would have been best but I used what I had.)  I then woke up the kids and told them breakfast was ready.  They enjoyed collecting and eating popcorn for breakfast but I couldn't convince them to have the leftovers for lunch.  They couldn't even make it past breakfast.  They would not have done well in the wilderness.

We watched the Dreamworks DVD The Prince of Egypt.  The kids talked about the things in the movie that did not go along with what the Bible said.  They enjoyed pointing out the differences.

We also watched part 2 of What's In the Bible? #2.  My kids, especially my son, really enjoy these DVD's.

Zoo 3 - A Few of Our Experiments

I previously posted about our first few experiments but then didn't keep up with my blog (or my picture taking) but I decided to post the pictures I do have of the experiments I didn't previously post about.

Zoo 3 Lesson 4
Experiment - The Cougar Eats the Deer

This experiment was to demonstrate how the predator/prey relationship works.  Each player took turns throwing his/her cougar into the square of deer.  Any deer the cougar landed on represented an eaten deer.  Each toss represented a generation of hunting.  The cougar had to land on at least three deer to survive for the next generation.  This is obviously not all of the directions but the idea was that there had to be enough deer in a given area to keep the cougars alive for the next generation.  But too many deer meant more cougars.  This is a delicate balance.

Zoo 3 Lesson 7
Experiment - Dissection of Owl Pellets

This experiment was pretty simple.  The dissection of owl pellets.  The kids are pretty serious scientists.  lol!

Zoo 3 Lesson 13
Spider Web For Fun

My kids didn't make the mid-lesson project of creating a web frame but my daughter decided to make her own web out of yarn using my bed posts as her frame.

Zoo 3 Lesson 13
Wood Louse Population Study

The kids marked off an area and collected wood lice AKA roly-poly's, pill bugs, sow bugs, potato bugs, or whatever you might call them.  We call them roly-poly's.  They collected and marked 10.  They were supposed to repeat the experiment the next evening at the same time but we, um, forgot.

We did many of the other experiments but I forgot to take pictures.  One experiment that comes to mind that the kids really enjoyed was in Lesson 9 about the giraffe and it's high blood pressure demonstrated with a plastic bottle, pin, balloon and water.  (Anything involving water is always fun.)

One thing that helped us complete most of the experiments was that fact that I had purchased a supply kit from CreationSensation.com.  They included most everything we would need for each experiment.  I couldn't use the fact that 'I forgot to collect the supplies' as an excuse for skipping an experiment.  ;)  If only I had remembered to take more pictures.

Our Zoo 3 Lapbooks by A Journey Through Learning

Here are pictures of all of our lapbooks for Exploring Creation with Zoology 3:  Land Animals of the Sixth Day.  These lapbooks are produced by A Journey Through Learning.

Since both my kids are dyslexic, lapbooks are a great way to help them cement what they are learning.  And they love doing them.

The first and last lapbooks are just on a sheet of card stock.  I don't remember why we did lesson 1 that way but we only did portions of lesson 14.  It was the end of the year and we were all just ready to have a break from school so I condensed and skipped portions of it.

There is a coloring page cover that is for every two lessons but my kids are not big on coloring  so I made the lapbook covers myself with clip art from various internet searches.
